Lora Calise - [email protected] Ms. Calise, Department Chairperson, received her BA and MAT in Spanish from Rhode Island College. In addition, she studied at the Universidad de Valencia in Spain. She has been teaching at SHS since 1994, having previously taught at La Salle Academy. She is a member of RIFLA and the AATSP. Lora loves dance, design, art, and spending time with her family.
Diana Daniels - [email protected] Mrs. Daniels received her BS from the State University of New York at Albany and MED in Spanish from RIC. She also studied at the Universidad de Chile. She has been teaching in Smithfield for 10 years. She is a member of RIFLA and AATSP. She enjoys scrapbooking, needlepoint and photography. She is a mom of fraternal triplets.
Margarita Dempsey - [email protected] Mrs. Dempsey received her BA from Skidmore College and her MAT in French from Assumption College. She has earned 35 graduate credits from the Université de Paris, the Universidad de Salamanca, SUNY New Paltz, RIC and Providence College. She has been teaching at SHS for 19 years. She teaches French at Byrant University and is running French Conversation classes on Block Island. She is advisor for FLITES (French Language in the Elementary Schools) and has organized trips to France, Spain and Canada. She is a member of RIFLA, AATF, AATSP, and ACTFL. She serves on the Board of RIFLA and is Editor of the RIFLA Gazette. Her interests include theatre, travel and cooking.
Jay DiSandro - [email protected] Mr. DiSandro received his BA and MAT in Spanish from Rhode Island College. He studied at the Universidad de Madrid. He has been teaching at SHS for 21 years. He serves as Director of the Rhode Island College Early Enrollment Program; tennis instructor at Rally Point Racquet Club and translator for the Northern RI Police Departments. He is a member of the NRA and is on the Executive Board of the Smithfield Sportsman’s Club. He enjoys tennis, construction and camping.
Lisa Dunphy - [email protected] Mrs. Dunphy received a Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Rhose Island. She also studied at the Université Laval in Quebec. She has been a French teacher in Smithfield for 12 years. She is a member of the Rhode Island Foreign Language Association, and the American Association of Teachers of French. Mrs. Dunphy enjoys spending time with family and friends, cooking, dance, and watching soccer and hockey.
Steven Russillo - [email protected] Mr. Russillo received his BA in Education/Spanish from RIC and has been teaching at SHS for 8 years. He is the advisor for the Academic Decathlon and serves as the detention supervisor. He also works as a Board Certified Varsity Basketball Official. He is a member of RIFLA, AATSP, IAABO 84 (International Association of Approved Basketball Officials) and RIBGBO (Rhode Island Board of Girls Basketball Officials) and he is a certified coach in RI. He is a sports fanatic and is interested in film production, trivia, reality tv and video games. He is married to Liz Russillo, science teacher at SHS.
Rosamalin Suazo - [email protected] Señora Suazo received her Bacherlor of Arts in Education/Spanish from Rhode Island College.She is a native speaker and enthusiastic about teaching language and culture to her students. She has been teaching intro to Spanish and Spanish 1 at Gallagher Middle School for over 10 years. She is currently a member of Rhode Foreign Language Association (RIFLA). Señora Suazo is energetic and enjoys listening to salsa, bachata, y merengue.
